Building Integrated Energy Efficiency, The Media Centre, Bristol
introduction
Redevelopment of a media centre in a disadvantaged area of Bristol. The design was informed by local young people from start to finish. The new building will be a flagship building for the Knowle West Community to explore their creativity.
description
The centre is constructed from a main frame of concrete, steel and wood, with the walls being made of straw. The bales of straw are three times more effective than standard insulation and after a coat of lime, will also be strong enough to provide ample stability and security. The straw is sourced locally within a five-mile radius.
Solar panels on the roof generate electricity.
