Get active
Hertfordshire's countryside is wonderfully diverse.Thousands of years of human activity have left us with a layered landscape, flora and fauna that are full of hidden secrets waiting for you to discover. Historic Bronze Age routes lie alongside Roman roads and modern motorways. Areas of ancient woodland meet the more planned landscape of the 18th century. Great mansions stand within picturesque parkland, and if you look carefully, you can find trees of up to 1000 years old standing in what was once a land full of deer parks.
With rolling chalk grassland in the west and north, more wooded areas centrally and to the south and east, and rivers and streams that criss-cross the county, this is a landscape that is crying out to be explored!
Never more than a short bus or cycle ride from your doorstep, there are many footpaths, bridleways, byways and quiet country lanes providing lots of opportunities to get active outdoors in Hertfordshire.
