Walks and More

Welcome to our Walks & More programme. It lists a variety of outdoor activities aimed at inspiring you to explore the Hertfordshire countryside. Activities include walks, cycle rides and family events led by someone familiar with the area who can help you get the most out of your local countryside.

Entries are listed month by month with a brief description of the activity and all the details you should need to get involved.

If you have any queries about a particular entry, contact details are given under each event.  There will be someone to help you during office hours.

Enjoying the Countryside

Strong, comfortable footwear will help you get the most out of an outing in the countryside, and depending on the weather, waterproofs or a sunhat may be useful. Feel free to bring snacks and a drink with you. We will tell you if you need to bring a picnic lunch or if there will be a stop at a pub or café en route.

If the event involves public transport we will let you know, so please remember to bring money for your fare.

Staying safe

When participating in a walk or other outdoor activity, please note the following safety rules:

  • It is a condition of your taking part that you follow the leader's instructions at all times
  • Leaders will be at the meeting point whatever the weather, but may alter the route or cancel the event if conditions are hazardous or there are any concerns about health and safety
  • Vulnerable adults and people under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  • Dogs must be kept under close control at all times
  • If you decide to leave an event before the end, please tell the leader that you are going
  • Cyclists must wear a helmet at all times

Getting there

Detailed directions, including a telephone number are included in each entry. All activities will start and finish in the same place, unless otherwise stated.

We try to begin events at easily found landmarks with car parks wherever possible. Space is sometimes limited, so if you have to park on the road please do not block gates and entrances or inconvenience local residents and other road users. Please share transport with others coming on the walk, or use public transport if possible.
